About Salatna
Salatna is an online service dedicated to city-level prayer times, designed to offer precision, clarity, and speed to every user across Europe.
Our mission
Our goal is to give every Muslim in Europe fast and reliable access to their city's prayer times. We believe that accurate prayer times should be available without downloading an app or searching through outdated paper calendars.
Salatna currently covers France, the United Kingdom, Germany, Italy, and Spain, with interfaces available in French, English, German, Italian, Spanish, and Arabic. Each city has its own dedicated page with times calculated from its exact GPS coordinates.
Calculation methodology
Prayer times are computed from the geographic coordinates (latitude and longitude) of each city, combined with the local IANA timezone. The calculation relies on the astronomical position of the sun relative to the horizon.
Each prayer corresponds to a specific solar angle. For example, Fajr and Isha are determined by the sun's angle below the horizon, which varies by calculation method. In the UK, we apply the MWL method (18°), in France the UOIF method (12°), and we also support the ISNA method (15°).
The five daily prayers are calculated as follows: Fajr (astronomical dawn), Dhuhr (solar noon + declination), Asr (shadow length = 1× or 2× object height depending on juristic school), Maghrib (sunset), and Isha (disappearance of twilight). Sunrise is also calculated as it marks the end of the Fajr prayer window.
Quality and technical infrastructure
Salatna is built with Next.js and hosted on a dedicated server in Europe. Pages are pre-rendered and cached using ISR (Incremental Static Regeneration) to ensure sub-second load times.
City data comes from official geographic databases, enriched with OpenStreetMap data for mosques. A monitoring system continuously tracks service availability and performance.
We regularly verify consistency between our calculations and the times published by major mosques in each covered country.
Geographic coverage
Salatna indexes thousands of cities across 5 European countries. For each city, we provide: the 5 daily prayer times, a full monthly calendar, Qibla direction, calculation method comparison, and nearby mosques when data is available.
The database is regularly updated with new cities and coordinate corrections. If your city is missing or you notice an error, please contact us.
